Oh what a day....TOURNEY CHAMPS!!
PDF: Final Tourney Bracket

The season finale tournament began last Monday night (10/27) and it turned out to be the beginning of something great for FBCF softball. We only had enough players to field 2 teams and most of those players were from The Goodfellas and The Fellowship of the Swing, so we forfeited out The Posse's games from the beginning. Since they were scheduled to play The Fellowship, that means The Fellowship basically got a bye into the second round on Saturday.

The Goodfellas had the tough task of facing the league champion St. Mary's. With some help from their subs, The Goodfellas were able to put a trouncing on St. Mary's a knock them into the loser's bracket right off the bat. It was a great night for the offense as The Goodfellas put up 21 runs.

In the first two games on Saturday, each team lost and dropped into the loser's bracket. The Goodfellas were able to bounce back with a win over Hope Lutheran. Next up The Fellowship were able to knock out St. Mary's in an exciting extra innings battle which set up a showdown between the two FBCF teams. However, by this time in the day, many of our players had to leave and we were down to only 13 players total between the two teams. We decided to give the Fellowship the victory and just combine forces to play as a single team. This turned out to be a great idea not only for the sake of tired players, but also was great for unity and fellowship.

So playing now as a single team, we had to beat Baybrook Baptist to get into the championship bracket. PLaying some great defense led by Kyle Robeau in left center field, we were able to pound out 10 runs which proved to be enough for the victory.

Now we had to play Clear Lake Baptist. Last year CLB was not a very good team, only winning one or two games the whole season. They made a huge turn around this year and won out through the tourney meaning all they had to do was beat us and the championship would be there's. It was a nip and tuck game until the third inning. Ben Fultz came up to bat with 2 outs and the bases loaded and delivered in a big way. Big Ben hammered a rocket over the left field wall for a grand slam. Greg followed up with a solo shot over right center and the big inning helped secure the victory.

This meant we had to play Clear Lake Baptist again for the championship since that was their first loss in the tourney. We jumped out with 3 great innings scoring 15 runs in the process. Our defense was pretty solid too holding them to 7 runs. our last two innings our bats went silent. We went 3-up and 3-down each time. However, with the large cushion held up and we pulled out the win for the championship!!

What a great day it was. We were all dead tired by the end of the day but we all agreed it was well worth it. Good times, good fellowship, good games. A great way to end the 2008 season. I'm looking forward to next year!

Fellowship Comes in Second
On a night when teams were having a hard time fielding enough players, it all came down to the last game of the season to determine the league champion.

The Goodfellas had a chance to help out The Fellowship if they could have won against St. Mary's in their only played game of the night. However the usual plague of not being able to score runs brought yet another loss and forced The Fellowship to have to win their game against St. Mary's.

It was a great game. It was close through the first few innings and then St. Mary's was able to put a few runs up and also hold The Fellowship in their at-bat. Going into their final at-bat The Fellowship needed 4 runs to tie or 5 to win. They were only able to squeak out a single run though and ended up losing the game 18-15.

The Fellowship tied LC Church of Christ with a 10-4 record but by virtue of beating LC twice, The Fellowship gets second place in the league.

Tournament will be held on Monday 10/27 AND Saturday 11/1.

Here's a look at the final standings for the league:

Kevin and Taki: career nights! Fellowship bombs away!
On a night when the ball seemed to be flying all over the place, Kevin had easily the best two games of his short softball career. He went 4 for 7 including a triple that almost went out of the park!! He also had 5 RBIs. Taki was right there with him, if not one-upping him, going 6 for 7 with 3 triples and 5 RBIs!! Great job guys! Those two players helped The Posse score some runs for a change as they won big in their first game 23-6 and came close in their second game 19-14.

The Fellowship were crushing the ball last night. In each game they hit their max of three home runs.....and then some. Unfortunately every home run after the max of 3 counts as an out. And it seemed like they had just about as many home runs for outs as they did for runs. In the end they came away losing the first game but winning the second game.

It was a fun night out at the ball park. If you have a chance, you should come out and watch a few games. It is a great time of fellowship.

Fellowship of the Swing in action tonight!
Come out and support them! Game times 6:30 and 7:20.

Last week saw The Posse have a hard time scoring any runs in their two losses. The Fellowship lost a close one to St. Mary's 9-8 and then broke out the offense to hold on to a win against Hope Lutheran by the score of 16-13.

Schedule Updated for Rainouts
I heard from Danny today. The plan is to resume the season next Monday 9/29. The very first rainout games will be played that night and then we will play the following rainouts, including the Ike rainouts, on each of the next 3 Mondays after that. I have updated the schedule on the website to reflect the way I think it is supposed to go.

If the teams still want to play a tournament, Danny will put one together, otherwise he will give us a refund of some of our fee or apply the leftover to next season's fee.

So........here's what I think it looks like:

The Goodfellas:
Monday, Oct 20 (originally from 9/22)
6:30 PM The Posse
7:20 PM St. Mary's Catholic

The Posse:
Monday Sep 29 (originally from 8/4)
7:20 PM Baybrook Baptist
9:00 PM Hope Lutheran

Monday Oct 13 (originally from 9/15)
7:20 PM Clear Lake Baptist
9:00 PM Hope Lutheran

Monday Oct 20 (originally from 9/22)
6:30 PM The Goodfellas
8:10 PM League City Church of Christ

The Fellowship of the Swing:
Monday Sep 29 (originally from 8/4)
8:10 PM St. Mary's Catholic
9:50 PM Hope Lutheran

Monday Oct 6 (originally from 8/18)
6:30 PM League City Church of Christ
7:20 PM Baybrook Baptist

Monday Oct 13 (originally from 9/15)
6:30 PM Clear Lake Baptist
8:10 PM Baybrook Baptist

Monday Oct 20 (originally from 9/22)
